Even though you'll have a couple of years to beat every Witcher game before The Witcher 4 releases, CD Projekt Red reassures that The Witcher 4 will be a great starting point for all newcomers to this iconic franchise, if you don't want to play the first three games.
"What's great with Ciri [as the main protagonist] is that players will know her but also for new players, this is a great starting point to be able to experience lore and the world in a little bit different way," said Game Director Sebastian Kalemba in the recent interview.
He implied that players will be able to shape Ciri as the character in the way they want since Ciri's journey as the Witcher will be a new starting point for her. This also helped CD Projekt Red create a new set of skills for Ciri and play around with different gameplay features.
When you look back at The Witcher 3, that certainly was an incredible video game but there was only so much CD Projekt Red could do with Geralt in terms of powers and skills since they needed to stay true to the source material.
With Ciri, CD Projekt Red promise they will still respect the books and follow the lore where it's necessary to keep the world believable and close to what the Witcher writer Andrzej Sapkowski imagined but they can also play with new things to make the game feel fresh and different from the original trilogy.
All in all, everything regarding The Witcher 4 sounds pretty exciting and I can't wait to see more of CD Projekt Red's next big RPG. It's going to be a long wait until the release date (we're probably looking at 2027) so if you're still to play any of the Witcher games, you know what to do.
