The Last of Us Part II is now the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive ever with more than 4 million copies sold through as of June 21, 2020, Sony officially confirmed.
As expected, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II is a major success for Sony both critically and commercially. The game received glaring reviews and while some players are still unhappy with the story and how Naughty Dog dealt with some memorable characters, it is safe to say that many are still enjoying the brutal sequel.
Sony also have a lot of reason to be satisfied with The Last of Us Part II since the game is the best selling PlayStation 4 exclusive of all time with more than 4 million copies sold in its first three days. The publisher confirmed this in their latest blog post which also features a special message from the game director Neil Druckmann, who thanked millions of fans worldwide for their continuous support.
"Hearing how the experience has resonated with so many of you and witnessing the type of thoughtful discussions it has sparked has been so incredible. We’ve also been so inspired by your creativity — whether it’s your gorgeous Photo Mode shots, jaw-dropping gameplay GIFs, or the songs you’ve recorded using Ellie’s guitar," it's written in the message.
With 4 million sold copies, The Last of Us Part II surpassed sale numbers of Final Fantasy VII Remake (3.5 million) and Insomniac's Spider-Man (3.3 million), the biggest PlayStation 4 exclusives to this date.
