Having kicked off the celebrations for the 25th anniversary since we've set our foot on Tamriel with a free code for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Bethesda didn't plan on their servers refusing to play along, so the offer is extended.

It turns out that many players pounced on the chance to get Morrowind, only to be denied the pleasure by Bethesda's servers, which seem to have also been built in the Creation Engine.

Bethesda's launcher kept refusing to recognise the code and going straight to the website didn't help, quite the contrary. Their website wouldn't accept passwords, even though you could log in with the same password through the launcher.

Players resorted to multiple password changes and even opening new accounts, to no avail. Bethesda reacted and said that they're experiencing problems with their servers, and that players should check the status of services before trying again later.

Of course, the offer was up for just one day, and with Bethesda's celebratory Twitter post flooded with customers who spent at least half an hour trying their luck, the company decided to extend the offer "through the weekend".

Now, let us point out that we were neither outraged or in any way angry, because this was such a BethesdaTM thing that it actually ended up being strangely endearing.

We're confident not everyone thinks the same, but getting angry over not getting a 17-year-old game is pointless, doubly so when it's Bethesda - the undisputed king of bugs. We've just come to expect it from them, what can we say?

What really struck us is how many people were actually interested in downloading Morrowind, which holds a truly special place in our hearts. And yes, we rate it ahead of Skyrim - there, we said it.

If you choose to download The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, you'd do well to seek out some mods, as they can seriously improve the game's looks and whatnot. Heck, you can even play Fable, the self-proclaimed Morrowind-killer, which has been built in the Morrowind engine and goes by the name Fablewind .
