Bethesda's Todd Howard recently said that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be designed with a 10-year period in mind, which would be great had it not brought back the memories of Destiny and recently Anthem, both of whom promised the same thing.
And, as you probably remember, Destiny's and Anthem's respective launches made train wrecks look like modernist sculptures in comparison, so forgive us for not being ecstatic.
Howard told IGN that Skyrim is still killing it but that in spite of its and The Elder Scrolls Online's popularity, The Elder Scrolls 6 will undoubtedly have to be the big one.
"[The Elder Scrolls 6] is a game we need to design for people to play a decade, at least", albeit advocating patience, because it'll be a while before Bethesda have anything to show.
Just to be clear - we're not associating The Elder Scrolls 6 and the aforementioned two on the basis of a simple statement of longevity - we all want the games we play to last forever.
It's only natural for developers to wish the same, but it's a fine line between focusing on how to make money the next ten years, and focusing on making a game worth playing, so that you can make money the next ten years.
Bethesda have traditionally been leaning towards the latter up until Fallout 76, and we can only hope that this fiasco made them go back to what they do best. No, not bugs, the other thing.
Howard confirmed that Bethesda's priority at the moment is , the company's new IP that's got two of their studios involved already. Unfortunately, he said that neither Starfield nor The Elder Scrolls will be featured in Bethesda's .

Ultimately, we've waited for a while but there's plenty of waiting to be done, or as ZeniMax and TES Online's game director Matt Firor put it - we're not even sure "what the world is going to be like when it comes out".
Howard did say that the wait will be worth it once we've seen it. You can find the rest of the interview with IGN .
