Light of Motiram is taking "heavily inspired" term to the next level

Tencent's Polaris Quest studio has announced their debut AAA survival game, Light of Motiram, which bears a striking resemblance to PlayStation's Horizon series, to say the least.

In the news I didn't think I'd be writing today, Tencent studio Polaris Quest have announced their first title called Light of Motiram, which is an open-world survival co-op title where players can build their settlements and take on large mechanical' beasts.

Does it ring a bell? If not, check out the trailer here and you'll know what I'm talking about.

In a nutshell, Light of Motiram is so similar to PlayStation's beloved Horizon franchise that I think Sony's lawyers will soon be knocking on Tencent's doors. And it's not even the machines that are blatantly ripped off from Horizon, it's everything else - the world design, the characters and even the art style.

Just look at these beasts:

A whole slate of mechanical beasts in Light of Motiram and all of them have almost identical design ideas as Horizon Forbidden West

Or this screenshot of the settlement:

Everything about Light of Motiram reminds of Horizon Forbidden West, even this settlement, the foliage and large cloud formations in the background

Honestly, I have no idea what Tencent and their studio were thinking with this one. It's certainly going to be very interesting to follow the development of the game and whether or not the dev team decide to change at least the art style to something a bit more stylised in order to avoid the resemblance with Horizon.

The game does not have a release date at the moment, suggesting that it's still ways off. It's confirmed for PC only and will launch on Steam and Epic Games Store. You can wishlist here.

In terms of gameplay, it's your standard crafting/survival game where you gather resources, build your base of operations to research new weapons and items before venturing into the wild to farm these beasts.

The devs promise spectacular boss fights, physics-based simulation and even the ability to tame and train the beasts.

On paper, that's plenty of exciting features and if done well, we could be getting a really fun game. But again, we doubt Sony will allow this to move forward without some serious tweaks to the game's assets.
