North Beach Games has formally announced Stranded Deep 2, the sequel to its survival adventure title. The announcement comes with the game’s Steam page going live as part of Steam’s PvE Survival Crafting Fest. An initial teaser trailer provides the first peek at what’s to come in the new survival sandbox and its new, drastically different environment.
Stranded Deep placed players stranded in the Pacific Ocean, though Stranded Deep 2 finds them in the middle of a desert wilderness complete with rivers, canyons, perilous wildlife, and more biomes. Stranded Deep co-creator Sam Edwards returns to lead development on Stranded Deep 2 as Creative Director.
Details are slim so far, but the sequel is also being built to expand over time as new locations, biomes, wildlife, crafting options, and community-created content are added to the experience.
The defining feature of the new Stranded Deep experience is its endless river world. Rivers flow through canyons, dunes, and valleys, allowing players to explore the wilderness by kayak or raft while using the waterways to access new locations.
This massive world will consist of handcrafted content that players can discover, but the world will be able to expand in the future as North Beach Games adds additional areas and content over time.
The sand will also come into play this time around. Players will be able to dig into the environment, alter the terrain, and even redirect sections of the river while dealing with rapids and dangerous bodies of water.
Players will also be able to build mobile bases that they can take with them as they explore. Floating homes can be crafted that will allow players to sail down the river. For players that want to settle down, there are traditional options available that allow players to build permanent bases along riverbanks.
Wilderness survival elements remain, with players needing to keep an eye on health, hunger, thirst, and exposure while exploring the dangerous wild.
Wildlife will exist within a living ecosystem, with some animals hunting, some roaming the wilderness, and all will exist within a food chain. Players will be a part of this environment and they will not always be at the top of it.
Crafting returns with expansions that allow players to pick what materials they use for their tools and structures based on what they find as they explore.
Stranded Deep’s popular Cartographer tool returns as well, though it is being expanded into what’s being called Cartographer 2.0. This will let players craft and share their own locations and experiences with friends on both platforms.
Last but not least, co-op is being worked on as a significant part of Stranded Deep 2. This will let players band together to survive and explore the wilderness.
