Riot Games is releasing patch 14.9 for Teamfight Tactics and League of Legends on May 1, 2024, and it will definitely shake things up in both games. Teamfight Tactics is currently on Set 11, Inkborn Fables and the changes in Patch 14.9 is going to completely shift the meta as the changes made on this patch targets almost every aspect of the game.
These changes include round-to-round transitions, items, augments, champions, levelling up and more. So lets take a deeper look into what we can expect from this upcoming patch
Teamfight Tactics Set 11 Inkborn Fables Patch 14.9 Overview
Here is are the highlights from all the changes in patch 14.9 in TFT:
Player Damage Changes
The developers intended to simplify damage calculations but ended up lowering player damage more than they expected, which made games longer than desired. To fix this, they plan to make losses in stages 4-6 more damaging. They might need to add 2 or 3 more damage points later, but for now, they're focusing on balancing the late game instead of punishing players early on.
Stage Player Damage: 0/2/5/7/9/11/17/150 to 0/2/5/8/10/12/17/150
Leveling Costs Changes
The developers observed that 4-cost units were getting three-starred too often, limiting other strategies to achieve first place. By increasing the cost to reach level 9, which is where players often three-star their 4-cost units, they aim to reduce the gold available for this strategy.
To balance this, they are adjusting shop odds and encounters (read on for more). Additionally, lowering the cost of level 10 by 4 gold makes it more accessible, giving players an option beyond just rolling at level 9.
- Level 8 to 9: 72g to 80g
- Level 9 to 10: 84g to 80g
Shop Roll Odd Changes
With less gold and reduced odds, it's expected that the dominance of three-star 4-cost units as a common win condition will be mitigated.
- Level 8: 18/25/32/22/3 to 18/27/32/20/3
- Level 9: 10/20/25/35/10 to 15/20/25/30/10
Encounter Changes
To reduce the impact of game-warping encounters, the developers are removing or reducing the frequency of certain powerful encounters, while slightly increasing the chances of a few rare encounters to maintain balance.
Artifact Anvils Changes
The developers are introducing 20 new artifacts into the game, offering more variety through Artifact Item Anvils at all stages. With four choices, players should be able to find an artifact that suits their composition, even if it's not their top choice (like the Suspicious Trench Coat).
- Artifact Item Anvils are now pick 1 of 4 (were pick 1 of 3)
- Portable Forge changed to pick 1 of 4 Artifacts and is available at all Stages
- Removed the Augments Portable Forge+ and Portable Forge++ as they are no longer necessary
Major Trait Changes
Dryad 6 has been too powerful due to its accessibility with just one craftable Emblem. To address this, the developers are reducing its AP and HP stacking significantly, as the previous values could make even an itemless Azir a formidable threat with both high damage and tankiness.
Sett's Fated Omnivamp bonus was bugged, allowing it to benefit from item damage and apply before resistance-based mitigation, making it overly strong. Fixing these bugs led to a small buff to the base Omnivamp value, but this adjustment will still likely be a slight nerf to Sett's bonus.
Heavenly, as a vertical Origin, was mainly used as a support trait for strong carries from other traits, such as Yone, Kayn, and Lee Sin. The developers want Heavenly to stand alone as a vertical with unique primary carries. To achieve this, they're lowering the bonus stats at most breakpoints and removing the bonus star-level scaling, but adding a more significant 70% bonus to these stats for Heavenly units like Kha'Zix, Soraka, and Wukong.
Umbral has struggled to regain popularity since its brief dominance during the PBE phase. To boost Umbral, the developers are increasing its execute threshold and buffing the 3-cost carry, Alune. While this might not be enough to make Umbral competitive, it's a step toward improving its viability.
While these changes may seem like a lot, but in reality the developers may need to make more drastic changes in the future. Also as new items are being introduced to the game, we can expect for hotfixes soon after the patch finally goes live.
