Vanguard is finally here in League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics

With so many cheaters in the game, Riot Games finally confirmed the implementation of Vanguard into both League of Legend  and Teamfight Tactics. It is set to go live globally on May 1, 2024.

Riot's patented anti-cheat system, Vanguard, will be installed and operational on the PC client with Patch 14.9. This means that Vanguard will be actively enforced, and it will run in the background to keep your queues clear of scripters, botters, and cheaters!

While that phrase is more appropriate to League of Legends, we expect Teamfight Tactics to benefit in the long run as Vanguard serves as a deterrent to potential cheaters in the future. The developers just wrote a blog describing the "why" for adding Vanguard to League, which you can read here

If you're wondering what you've got to do to continue enjoying League of Legends (and TFT on PC), simply install Vanguard. In the event that you don't have Vanguard installed, when you load the Riot Client or League, it will request that you install it before restarting your PC to make sure Vanguard is active.

You will not be able to join any queues or play until Vanguard has been installed and is actively running.

What do we know so far about the Riot Vanguard?

According to the developers:

  • The Riot Vanguard will be a separate entity running in the background
  • Players need to keep it active whenever they start the game client and during gameplay
  • The game won't be playable without Vanguard running in the background
  • Vanguard will detect any third-party software or app, including ones that show timers and stats
  • It will specifically target cheaters, scripters, and bots

Besides this, Vanguard will have one additional feature. It will have the power to end the match if any cheating is detected. Then it will penalise the cheaters.

Players seem to have mixed feelings about Vanguard, with one side saying it is invasive and breaches their privacy. However, these claims are just speculations, as nothing can be said for sure until Vanguard is launched and observed.
