Guild Wars 2 features horizontal progression, which makes it tricky for the devs to implement new content that the players will be willing to spend time on. Some of the best content came with the strike missions but they were marred in the shortcomings of the associated systems, like purchasing rewards.
Guild Wars 2 will take a step back and try to remove confusion regarding the currencies by introducing a singular one that will be used for all Strikes once End of Dragons comes around. Furthermore, the existing Icebrood Saga Strike currencies will also be tied up into a single one and the weekly cycling will be removed.
Additionally, players will be able to use the currency in order to purchase items that are available exclusively as drops from some Strikes as well, in order to minimise the RNG that could potentially repulse the players from these missions.
If that wasn't enough, players will be able to trade their EoD Strike currency for the IBS one so those who missed out on older rewards can grab them even though they are enjoying new content instead.
Overall, these are several quality of life improvements that should definitely boost the engagement with Strike missions but it remains to be see how well the players will respond to the changes.
