Cloud Imperium Games have announced that Star Citizen will be free to play from 23 November to 01 December 2018. This comes as a celebration of the game's anniversary as well as the release of Hurston, the game's first explorable planet.
Star Citizen is, contrary to the popular belief, not a bad game. It is definitely an unfinished product, and Cloud Imperium Games don't claim otherwise. The majority of the negative press comes from the and that was close to $200 million at the time of writing, on top of the game's release being constantly pushed back.
Those who played it actually found the to be the next step in video game evolution, and had plenty of fun to boot, so jumping into the free week may prove to be decent entertainment.
Should you decide to pop in, you will not need to sell your kidney in order to get a ship to fly around in as a different ship manufacturer will make its entire fleet available for free every day of the free week.
The rotation will open with Anvil Aerospace ships on 23 November 2018, continuing with Roberts Space Industries the next day. The latter refers to the in-game manufacturer, not the real life company owned by Chris Roberts.
Similarly, Origin Jumpworks, which will be featured on the third day of the free week has no ties with EA or its Origin platform. It's actually more like space BMW - usually featuring sleek, performance heavy ships fit for racing.
Aegis Dynamics ships will be available on the fourth day, with Drake Interplanetary coming after. Coming up on day six, Alien Manufacturers may not sound fancy without a proper brand name, but the ships definitely are. One could even argue Batman flies one of these.

The last two days of the free week, that oddly enough has eight days, will feature ships from Musashi Industrial and Starflight Concern first, followed by the grand finale featuring ships and vehicles from Consolidated Outland, Argo, Kruger and Tumbril.
