It's been quite a while since we last saw our beloved purple dragon, Spyro, grace our screens with a new adventure. His last outing was in 2018 with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and it's safe to say that fans, myself included, are eagerly anticipating his return.
According to a recent report by Windows Central, Toys for Bob Studio has struck a deal with Xbox to develop their debut game as an independent studio for the platform, giving fans some much-needed hope. Many assumed that this would be the next project for Toys for Bob, especially given their expertise with the franchise and the success of the Spyro trilogy.
Yesterday, Canadian Guy Eh, a credible insider from Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, disclosed that the unnamed project being developed by Toys for Bob in partnership with Microsoft is indeed the fourth instalment in the Spyro the Dragon series.
What do we know so far about the next Spyro game?
In a recent video released by Canadian Guy Eh, he states that he has received information from various sources at PAX East and in recent months indicating that Toys for Bob is actively working on a new Spyro title.
Matt Booty, the head of Xbox's game content division, reportedly hinted that, while he couldn't confirm the specific title, he did hint that the upcoming game from Toys for Bob would be in line with the studio's previous work.
Toys for Bob has been dropping cryptic hints, keeping fans on their toes. Last year, the studio shared a post featuring developers engrossed in a presentation on Unreal Engine 5.
Adding to the speculation, Toys for Bob recently teased fans to "keep their horns on," a phrase that strongly suggests a nod to Spyro.
While Canadian Guy Eh has a strong track record of reporting on Crash and Spyro games and asserts that Spyro 4 being in development is a "fact," it's important to treat this information as a rumour until the project is officially announced.
Again, even if all the speculations and rumours are true, the Spyro 4 game is currently at a very early stage in its development. This means there is a chance of it getting delayed or even cancelled.
