NPD Group published their September report on video game hardware and software sales in the US and, surprise surprise, Spider-Man leads the pack, while managing to beat launch month performance of all earlier Spider-Man games combined.
I was being sarcastic of course, because Spider-Man's performance is there for all to see. Spidey earned 3.4 million in the first three days, which means that the 3.1 million record set by its in-house heavy hitting colleague is a thing of the past. Long live the king we guess.
That's not the end of good Spider-News because Insomniac Games cruised to the highest launch month dollar sales for any PlayStation exclusive ever. As far as PS4's non-exclusives go, Spider-Man is the seventh largest launch. People obviously love , wink wink.
NBA 2K19 was the second best selling game in September 2018, with the best launch month sales performance of any sports game since NPD started monitoring the market. Subreal was obviously right on the money when he said that NBA 2K19 is the ever made, even though he didn't look as kindly upon its little brother, .
With Ubisoft ringing Assassin's Creed: Odyssey's bells in Japan, where they expect it to become as of yet, it is perhaps unsurprising to see it sitting in third place in the US. It's already leaving last year's Assasin's Creed: Origins in the dust, becoming in the process the sixth best selling game in the past year.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider comes in fifth, sandwiched between FIFA 19 and Madden NFL 19 and I must say it's always strange seeing FIFA outperform NFL in the US. In fact, FIFA 19 has had the best month dollar sales since FIFA 16, while Lara Croft reported best results since 2013's Tomb Raider.
The list of NPD's top 10 selling games looks like this:
- NBA 2K19
- Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
- FIFA 19
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider
- Madden NFL 19
- Forza Horizon 4
- Destiny 2
- Super Mario Party
- NHL 19
