Sony are aggressively investing in live-service games and plan to launch ten GAAS titles by March 2026.

One genre where PlayStation's first-party offering is truly lacking are shooters and live-service games. Sony don't have a single live service game at the moment but have aggressively started investing in studios that are building such games.

Recently acquired Firesprite are building a new AAA multiplayer title, Sony London are also working on an online AAA IP while studios known for single-player games, Naughty Dog and Guerrilla are also rumoured to be working on multiplayer projects.

During their earnings report, Sony revealed that their plan is to launch ten live service games by March 2026. Games that are expected to launch in that period are developed by both first-party but also third-party partners such as Haven and Firewalk Studios.

Here's the quick breakdown of confirmed and rumoured live-service games by Twitter user Faizan Shaikh :

Following the acquisition of Bungie, PlayStation head Jim Ryan revealed that PlayStation will be expanding to new platforms to increase the size of the PlayStation community.

"This can take many forms. And definitely one of the main ones is the ability for the wonderful games that we've been making over the past 25 years to be enjoyed in different places and played in different ways. We are starting to go multiplatform, you've seen that. We have an aggressive road map with live services," Ryan said.

This is where the live-service games come in. Launching PlayStation titles on new platforms such as cloud and PC certainly increases the reach which ultimately results in more cash for Sony. It's as simple as that.

Of course, Sony will keep making single-player narrative-driven games which are they are known for but the company will not be solely focusing on those anymore.
