According to the stock market report at Market Watch, Sony may be trying to acquire Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K. Take-Two's stock value has seen an increase of around 5 per cent from the rumour itself.

The platform war is very much a real thing, whether we like it or not. Be it PlayStation versus Xbox, Nintendo versus other consoles, or the mighty Master Race taking on the console trio - the constant race for the gaming throne is always an interesting one to watch.

After the of Microsoft buying EA, PUBG Corp and Valve spread like wildfire, another absolute bombshell has now emerged. Namely, according to , Sony may be trying to acquire Take-Two Interactive - the owner of two gigantic publishing labels: Rockstar Games and 2K.

The Market Watch report states that Take-Two Interactive's stock has climbed by about 5 per cent due to the sole rumour of Sony's buyout which is currently being described as "advanced board level discussions to acquire Take-Two Interactive in a mostly cash deal".

Breathing more life into the rumour is the fact that Sony's own stock has seen a slight boost as well, if only by as little as 0.8 per cent at the time of writing.

If the rumour turns out to be true, it would undoubtedly be a massive game changer as Take-Two Interactive owns the rights to some of the biggest titles in the industry, with the likes of Grand Theft Auto, Borderlands, Civilization, Bioshock, Red Dead Redemption, XCOM and many others. It is also home to two legendary sports franchises: NBA 2K and WWE 2K.

Back in the days of PlayStation 3, Top Spin 4 was easily one of the most beloved titles - not just among the avid fans of tennis - but among the sports gaming fans in general. Should the rumours prove to be true, ruling out the ever-welcome sequel, Top Spin 5, would not be completely of question.

Moreover, adding more titles to PlayStation's already fascinating library of exclusives is something that would surely give the platform a massive upper hand in the platform war, especially considering the upcoming season of new-generation consoles.

Still, bearing in mind that this is only a rumour, a quite big one at that, we strongly suggest you take it with a grain of salt, but don't go about dismissing it completely.

After all, Halo: The Master Chief Collection coming to PC was considered a mere dream by many, and look how that , right?
