Shovel Knight, a 2D side-scrolling platformer is coming out on Nintendo Switch under a new name
The game was developed by Yacht Club Games and released in 2014 following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment is the newest and largest entry in the Shovel Knight series, and it will be available for the Switch users along with the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. The Treasure Trove title is a season pass-like form of the original game, which will feature the base game and have options to add other campaigns.
Come spring 2017, the game formerly known simply as Shovel Knight will be called Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope. This name change is due to the developer's plan to make every campaign available for purchase as a standalone title, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC/Mac/Linux, and Nintendo Switch. hope that the option of buying individual titles, at a lower cost, will entice more players to try the game out, considering the fact the price of Shovel Knight will rise in spring.
All users who already own Shovel Knight across all platforms will automatically own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, and will continue to get each of the planned free campaigns and features via updates. Two modes have also been announced, a two player local co-op mode and a Body Swap mode with added designs of body-swapped versions of the main characters. Co-op mode will be available across all platforms, except for 3DS and Vita.
The already announced King's Knight title and a new four-player battle mode are to be released later in the year, for all platforms. Owners of the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will be able to download the new additions for free.
