From Software and Activision have decided to show 12 minutes of gameplay from their upcoming katana-wielding, blood-gushing action title Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and it seems as if it's shaping up to be a proper Tenchu successor.

Yeah, I said Tenchu and I meant it, because the game was initially meant to be a sequel to one of my all-time favourite stealth action games. And I'm strictly talking the first game in the series, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, because the later sequels didn't really do it justice and reviews seem to agree with me for the most part.

From Software apparently thought the same and ended up loosely basing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on Tenchu, instead of doing a direct sequel. If what we've seen so far is anything to go by, it was probably the right decision, especially since it kept most of what made it fun - action, acrobatics and more action in beautiful settings.

The story follows shinobi Sekiro, who is on the warpath to exact justice on the samurai who kidnapped his lord. He's also not very happy about his arm, which has been replaced by a quite a resourceful prosthetic arm, which draws peculiar similarities to . Sekiro actually translates to one armed wolf, which is how the game got its name. Well, at least he won't be getting any blisters any more, right?

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is set in a romanticised version of 16 century Japan, in the Senghoku period, which paved the way for the stylised visuals you see in the game. Speaking about visuals, the in-game locations that you can catch a glimpse of in the gameplay video above are just gorgeous. There's something about ample amounts of crimson red that makes everything look more spectacular too.
