Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been out for several months now and its safe to say that the game has been received positively by the majority of players and gaming critics. FromSoftware's latest title introduced some refreshing additions to "the souls-like" genre, which is the developer known for.
Even more importantly for the devs, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been a major financial success. The game managed to sell 100,000 copies in its first 24 hours, and more than two million copies in just ten days.
According to the latest report, Sekiro once again reached some eye-catching sale numbers. Japanese media company Kadokawa revealed in their first-quarter earnings report that as of the end of June 2019, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has sold over 3.8 million units worldwide.
The company's Powerpoint document reveals that Q1 results report strong "overseas royalty income" with worldwide cumulative shipments of over 3.8 million.
When compared to other games from the developer, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is on a good way to become the best selling game in FromSoftware's history. For example, the original Dark Souls sold 2.37 million copies in one and a half years while the sequel, Dark Souls 2 managed to ship 2.5 million copies in a year.
The final game in the trilogy, Dark Souls, 3 took a couple of months to reach 3 million. All three Dark Souls games managed to ship over 25 million copies worldwide.
While it's hard to predict Sekiro's sales in the upcoming months and years, it safe to say that both the devs and the publisher Activision will be satisfied with the initial sale numbers, which are almost identical if not higher than Dark Souls 3's.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
