According to credible industry insiders, Microsoft are planning to acquire another big-name developer or publisher, similar to how they got Bethesda and Zenimax.
It looks like Microsoft do not plan to stop with acquisitions anytime soon. Last year, the tech giant officially acquired Bethesda and the rumours about another similar purchase are floating around the social media and gaming forums lately.
This most recent rumour even has some credibility since it's being backed by reliable industry insider Xbox Ragna. The rumour states that Microsoft will be acquiring Studios on the same sort of calibre of Bethesda this year.
Ragna responded to the rumour, stating that he does not know the person who started the rumour, but apparently, he has been hearing the same thing for several months.
"I don't know who this guy is, but I've been hearing the same thing for months, that Microsoft wants to acquire another publisher, negotiations with Bethesda lasted 3 years, as I've been pointing out, I believe the announcement will be at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022," Ragna tweeted.
To be fair, it's not surprising that Microsoft are looking to expand their gaming division. With Xbox Game Pass on the rise, it's only smart to continue investing in studios that own many IPs, which will end up on the subscription service day-one.
At the moment, we do not have info about the mysterious developer who could join the Xbox Game Studios. Earlier rumours suggested Sega could be one of the targets but until we get more solid info on this, take everything you read with a grain of salt.
