Rise of the Ronin is the next action RPG from developer Team Ninja, the creators of the critically acclaimed series Nioh and the most recent souls-like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
Coming exclusively to PlayStation 5, Rise of the Ronin is just around the corner and so far, the dev team revealed plenty of gameplay footage and details that make us very excited for their first open-world endeavour.

Rise of the Ronin Release Date
Team Ninja announced at The Game Awards 2023 show that Rise of the Ronin will be coming on March 22, 2024, exclusively to PlayStation 5. Other platforms are yet to be announced. It's possible that the game comes to PC at some point but don't get your hopes up for an Xbox version.
Rise of the Ronin story
Rise of the Ronin is set in the late 19th century during the very end of a 300-year Edo period. Japan is facing the darkest of times as it struggles with its oppressive rulers and deadly diseases while western influence permeates as civil war continues to rage between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Anti-Shogunate factions.
Players will embody a Ronin character, a warrior bound to no master and free to make choices of his own. Team Ninja are expected to reveal more story details as we get closer to the launch.
Rise of the Ronin gameplay features
Rise of the Ronin is an open-world action RPG with freeform traversal options, deep combat mechanics and quests where choices matter.
Team Ninja already showcased how players can use various tools to quickly travel large distances - You can glide around using Avicula, grapple to roofs using the grappling hook or take a more traditional approach to traversal by riding your horse.
As for the combat, Team Ninja promise their signature swordplay and a wide selection of weapons including both domestic and foreign ones.
The timing will be key in melee combat and you can also expect different stances, blocking, parrying and more. If you've played Team Ninja's games before, you probably know what to expect from the studio who truly excel at creating a fluid and satisfying combat experience.
