Riot Games is proud to announce a new trading card game, Project K, which will release in 2025. A real cool addition to the universe of League of Legends, this game builds upon the rich lore of the game and expands its presence into the world of physical card games.
Earlier this year, Riot Games China announced Rune Battlegrounds, a League of Legends-themed TCG, for release as a China-exclusive title. While that was still a rumor, Riot has now confirmed such an announcement, stating indeed the game will go through a global release called Project K.
For this new game, creative cues will be taken from League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, and even Riot's animated series Arcane. The fans will even recognize some familiar artwork from said sources integrated into the new game.
Project K details
Despite these influences, Riot has made it clear that Project K is a standalone product and not connected to Legends of Runeterra.
Project K is said to come with several modes of play such as 1v1, 2v2 and free-for-all format. Similar to Legends of Runeterra, players will create decks that revolve around specific League of Legends champions.
That being said, from the core gameplay shown in this reveal trailer, it's obvious that Project K is going to have its features and mechanical bits.
The first launch of Project K will happen in early 2025, in China, via a local publisher. Riot also intends to extend the game to the rest of the world soon.
In the West, where players will want to get their hands on an early version of the game, the Teamfight Tactics Macao Open will be the first event to offer hands-on access, from December 13-15.
This new TCG marks yet another step in Riot's mission of diversifying its portfolio while offering fans innovative ways to engage with their favorite universe.
