League of Legends Honor system changes explained

Riot Games is working on releasing one of the largest updates to its Honor system yet to fix some of the oldest problems related to in-game toxicity and to reward good player behavior.

As League of Legends prepares for one of the biggest seasons in 2025, Riot Games is working on releasing one of the largest updates to its Honor system yet.

The idea here is to fix some of the oldest problems related to in-game toxicity and to reward good player behavior. After an outstanding 15-year run since the game's release, League of Legends is still behemoth-like in the game's vast domain.

But that comes with its own negative-the reputation for one of the most toxic communities within the gaming world. Riot Games has worked tirelessly for years with multiple different initiatives to stem the problem.

From disabling all chat by default to auto-muting players who use inappropriate language, Riot has continued to push player interactions in a more positive direction. They've also encouraged positive behavior by giving out free skins for continuing high honor levels.

Despite these, toxic behaviors still prevail. Riot has brought into place more robust methods for fighting off toxicity and rewarding those players who create a positive gaming environment.

League of Legends Honor system changes

Here's a breakdown of all League of Legends Honor level features:

  • Honor Level 1: All chat, champion select chat, and post-game chat are disabled. Ranked split rewards are unavailable.
  • Honor Level 2: All chat remains disabled, and ranked split rewards are still inaccessible.
  • Honor Level 3: Players earn Battle Pass XP, regain access to all chat, and receive ranked split rewards.
  • Honor Level 4: Includes all Level 3 benefits, plus increased XP drops, a loading screen honor emblem, and additional pings and emotes.
  • Honor Level 5: Adds maximum XP drops, a chat honor emblem, an exclusive honor recall, and access to all Honor skins, including past ones.

This is going to be one of the key changes introduced in the update 2025, whereby rewards and penalties will depend upon honor level.

Players at low honor will have various restrictions imposed on them, and high honor opens exclusive rewards to them.

This rework is part of Riot's larger initiative to improve the user experience, including updates such as Noxus-themed visuals for Summoner's Rift and a new battle pass system-all meant to make the gameplay more rewarding to positive players and punishable to toxic behavior.
