A recent slip-up by Riot Games has just leaked details concerning a potential new champion that could be coming to League of Legends. Though the game is already more than 15 years old, one of the reasons it remains fresh and exciting is through the inclusion of new champions.
To date, League of Legends currently features over 168 uniquely different characters. Although Riot has dialed it back, releasing fewer champions in order to update many of its older ones, the leaks of new ones have become far more common.
Last year, Riot announced four champions, but to this date in 2024, we've only seen two: Smolder and Aurora. In addition, Ambessa Medarda is also supposed to join the champion roster with Arcane Season 2.
Of course, less frequent new champion reveals compared to previous seasons make a lot of sense for the most part as the game moves further along, but hype in regards to champion leaks was at an all-time high, and in this case, it wasn't a leak from an outside source but Riot themselves.
Riot recently sent out a survey about League of Legends Split 3 for 2024, and in so doing, accidentally leaked a new champion. Arcane series fans will recognize the name: Mel Medarda.
The champion's icon was visible within the survey alongside ability tooltips with placeholder images, though her passive itself had an icon.
Worth noting is that Mel Medarda does not need to necessarily be confirmed as a playable champion. Riot very often changes their plans around, such as Silco, who would have been turned into a champion but later was turned into Renata Glasc.
While there is no confirmation that Mel Medarda will join the game, this leak certainly caused an uproar within the community.
