League of Legends fans are getting themselves excited with the possible sequel to Riot Games’ flagship MOBA title. Weibo, a popular Chinese social media site, originally featured a post now deleted that revealed League of Legends 2 to be announced sometime in the latter half of 2026.
The original post, now removed from the site, has been captured in numerous screenshots that have since gone viral on all manner of forums and social media sites.
Riot Games, as to be expected, has yet to comment on the leak, but due to the potential size of the leak and its details, people are taking it more seriously. League of Legends 2 would be a major evolution of the MOBA genre which has largely been unchanged in more than ten years.
Rumoured Complete Technical Overhaul
Leaks suggest that League of Legends 2 would maintain the core gameplay of the existing game, but receive a complete technical overhaul. The sequel is allegedly running on an entirely new game engine, with significantly enhanced visuals, smoother animations, and a modern codebase intended to be more stable in the long run.
The leak also hints that Riot plans to rework the entire champion pool, overhauling legacy abilities and refining gameplay systems for a more fluid, competitive experience. This could range from quality-of-life improvements to the visual and mechanical presentation of abilities, to more granular changes like the fine-tuning of ability scaling, hitbox accuracy, or general in-game responsiveness.
Improved Visuals and Performance
In addition to gameplay adjustments, League of Legends 2 also reportedly features improved visual effects and a more optimised performance profile with a focus on both high-end PC and modern hardware configurations.
It seems that Riot is looking to bring League’s graphics more up to date, while also maintaining the game’s signature art style that has become iconic over the years.
