Alongside the PUBG Global Invitational, or PGI in short, Brendan Greene and Co are preparing a Charity Showdown event as well, with streamers like Shroud, Ninja and DrDisRespect joining some pros in competing for a $1 million prize pool.

Naturally, this being a charity oriented event by the maker of PUBG, the proceeds will go to charity of winners' choosing. The event takes place in Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin Germany, on Friday, 27 July 20018 and we'll be able to watch it on all major streaming platforms.

Participants will be competing in teams of four, where streamers will be teaming up with professional players who're actually competing in the PGI. Third place wins $100,000; second placed team gets $300,000, while first place runs away with $600,000, which is $150,000 per player.

Naturally, when I say run away with it, it's an expression, because they'll only run to deposit it into a charity of their choosing. Ultimately though, Brendan Greene, PUBG Corp and whoever else came up with this really deserve credit, because the industry can never have enough of such positive examples.

In fact, it is quite amazing the see the gaming industry, once considered just a poor excuse for immature escapists from reality, grown up to be a model in many respects. When it comes to charity, perhaps doubly so.

Namely, Epic Games have recently held their Fortnite Pro-AM tournament, sometime towards the end of May 2018. The event brought with it a hefty $3 million prize pool that went to charity and coincidentally, Ninja was a part of that one as well.

Blizzard have recently raised more than $12.7 million via their skin, which went to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, again one of the more positive industry examples. Needless to say, it's a proud time to be a gamer.
