Double Fine say they are now internally splitting into two teams that will work on separate projects.
Double Fine have shared a new update on the crowd-funding platform Fig, where they talked about their some Psychonauts 2 physical rewards that they are making as well as sharing a glimpse of info regarding their next games. Yes, that's plural since Double Fine are now basically splitting into two teams internally to work on different projects.
The studio confirmed that in the blog post, hinting at some experimental stuff with new gameplay ideas and more. Here's the bit from the blog post where Double Fine mention their plans for the future:
Psychonauts 2 has essentially wrapped up as a project although there will be tweaks and fixes as we move forward. The studio is already splitting up into various teams and starting different projects that we think you’ll enjoy. We like experimentation here at Double Fine.
Every game is a chance to explore new ideas, new visual styles or gameplay, emotions, and more. Psychonauts 2 was a chance to revisit and reimagine the classic that launched our studio into the future. It was a long process but we like to think the pay off was pretty great. We stuck the landing.
So there you have it, folks. Don't expect Double Fine to change one bit. They will still push for more experimental games, trying to come up with new ideas just like in the past, which is certainly a good thing. That's why we love Double Fine, after all!
Double Fine are now part of Xbox Game Studios and their next games will be exclusive for PC and Xbox. Both titles will also launch day one on Game Pass.
