During the Future Game Show on the second day of Gamescom, we were able to see a very interesting deep dive into the gameplay of the upcoming Souls-like action RPG, Phantom Blade Zero. After the game was shown to some selected players back in July, the interest among the fans became very big for this game, and now, we have a chance to see more of the action from this wuxia-combat-based RPG.
The gameplay segment was showcased by Soulframe Liang, the game's director, who has a lot of interesting things to say about Phantom Blade Zero. According to him, Phantom Blade Zero will be a Souls-like title, but not as hardcore as some other titles from this subgenre. He pointed out that the idea of the devs was to tell a story that will leave a mark and that will be easy to comprehend, unlike the Souls-like games where everything is cryptic and mysterious.
Liang showed that the game will, apart from a very significant combat system, feature a map as well, along with a very huge world where, as he said, it will be very easy to miss huge parts of the game if the players don't pay attention and explore as it is intended.
Apart from all those interesting details Liang uncovered for us during the Phantom Blade Zero showcase, the sentence with which he ended this showcase intrigued fans the most. Even though we didn't have any information about the game's potential release date up until now, he claimed that, by the end of this year, we will know when the game will be released.
Considering that the game already has a playable demo, and the director of the game said that the release date will be released by the end of the year, we can expect that Phantom Blade Zero could be released sometime during 2026, and perhaps rather in the first half of the year, but that is just our wishful thinking.
In any case, what is confirmed by Liang is that Phantom Blade Zero will be released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PC via Epic Games and Steam. It is interesting that he didn't mention Xbox Series X|S in this video as well, so it remains to be seen if Phantom Blade Zero will become available on Microsoft's console in the future, or if it will be a PC and PlayStation 5 exclusive.
