Grinding Gear Games announced Path of Exile mobile version without provoking fans or leaving them empty-handed because they also announced Path of Exile 2 with an upgraded engine and most importantly - different skill system.
Blizzard are not in a good place right now, thanks to series of PR blunders and now it looks like they are not going to be in the future either, thanks to direct competitors constantly making their player bases happy.
First, Riot Games announced a TCG and a shooter game that should directly compete with Hearthstone and Overwatch, respectively. Now, there is Grinding Gear Games with announcements for Path of Exile mobile and Path of Exile 2.
Diablo 3 already had fierce competition in Path of Exile but GGG are gearing up to compete with Diablo 4 as well, through Path of Exile 2 which will have an upgraded engine with better graphics and overall feel of the game.
The gameplay trailer below showcases one of the advancements early on as the arrows fired by the player now offer more of feedback since shooting multiple arrows results in some enemies catching their pointy ends while those that miss get pinned in walls or nearby trees. Furthermore, lighting will be improved as well, offering a more engaging atmosphere, be it on the outside or in dimly lit halls of builds the players wander into.
While the improved graphics are certainly appreciated, it is highly likely the fans will be more excited about the new skill system. This is one of the fundamental things GGG apparently wanted to implement for a while but couldn't do so in the original Path of Exile. The new entry will offer them an opportunity to do so.
There is currently no info on Path of Exile 2 release date but the developers stated the beta testing will kick off in late 2020.
