Sadly, not all the news is good with the first expansion for New World.

New World will transform First Light into an endgame zone called Elysian Wilds when The Rise of Angry Earth launches, which causes a ton of conflicts due to the way zones are treated in the game.

Amazon Game Studios dealt with the storage and house ownership problems fairly well but the question about the farmed up local reputation lingered for a long while.

The devs finally answered it in a Q&A video on September 18, 2023.

Unfortunately, the reputation and bonuses you farmed up in the region will be lost and it appears the change will be irreversible.

If the wording in the video below is anything to go by, the players will not be reimbursed in any way - their progress will just get deleted. The devs didn't elaborate much on why it was that way, other than saying they followed the data that told them barely anyone visited First Light and even those who did mostly just went for the fort bonus.

Another similarly bad instance is that even though named items will get versions with higher gear score in the expansion, the ones in your inventory will not be brought up.

In other words, any named items that exist in the game will be upgraded to drop at a higher gear score, which will allow them to be upgraded further to properly move to the Legendary status.

The only exceptions will be the ones players looted thus far, which will remain useless when it comes to endgame after October 3, 2023.
