Amazon Game Studios are working on bringing more balance to New World PvP but it is likely many imbalances will remain despite the devs' best efforts.
During the video, David Verfaillie presented a bunch of changes, mostly about mitigating the power of ranged weaponry in Outpost Rush (OPR).
Considering the video was filmed on May 24, 2023, it is not surprising it talks mostly about changes that were already announced on PTR but it may cause some confusion because the video was published on week later.
Forged in Aeternum: Balance of Power highlights
First of all, the devs are happy with the current way of balancing things and the next batch of changes is going to be focused on heart runes.
During Season 2, AGS will introduce changes to:
- Underperforming abilities
- Whirling Blade gets faster attack, more damage, a bigger hitbox, easier targeting and Rend effect increase from five to 15 per cent
- Blocking changes
- Higher speed while blocking
- One-handed weapon blocks decrease ranged damage by 50 per cent
- Two-handed weapon blocks decrease ranged damage by 70 per cent
- Weapons cause less stamina damage for blocking ranged attacks
- Hale and Hearty is getting removed
- Nerfs to bow and fire staff
While this sounds like only a handful of changes, keep in mind that not all of them were mentioned in the video.
Also, the context for these changes is explained in Balance of Power so if you want to see the developers' reasoning for them, it is recommended to take a look at the 9-minute-long video.
