GTA 6 will feature two playable protagonists and just as the earlier rumours suggested, one of them will be a female character.
The latest report from Bloomberg reveals that the female character is a Latina woman and will be one of the two leading characters in the game's story, which is apparently inspired by the famous bank robber partners Bonnie and Clyde.
The report states that industry analysts expect GTA 6 to launch sometime during Take-Two's fiscal year 2024 which starts in April 2023 and ends in March 2024. However, Rockstar Games developers who talked anonymously are sceptical that the game will release during that timeframe.
They don't know of any firm release dates and they expect GTA 6 to be at least two years away. This means we could get GTA 6 for Holiday 2024 or even later, which is not surprising given that big AAA games are getting delayed all the time. COVID-19 pandemic is still having a major impact on the game development pipelines.
The development of GTA 6 has been quite bumpy according to the report. A group of Rockstar Edinburgh designers apparently quit the company earlier this year, telling their coworkers they were "sick of the lack of progress" on the game, which does sound worrying.
As for the setting, we have another confirmation that the GTA series is indeed returning to Miami-inspired Vice City which will be updated over time. Apparently, Rockstar had plans to include large portions of North and South America but those plans could have been scaped.
The original plan was to have the biggest Grand Theft Auto game ever with the inclusion of territories modelled after large regions of North and South America but the current map is different and it only includes Miami and its surrounding areas.
Rockstar decided to add new locations and cities after launch to avoid crunch during the game's final months of development.
