The fan-made remake of Need for Speed Underground is shaping up quite nicely.
The team behind the Need for Speed Underground 2 fan-made remake have shared a new video of the project, showcasing various graphical improvements over the last build as well as vehicle customisation, menus, performance and more.
The devs also confirmed that the entire project has shifted to the newest version of Unreal Engine 5 which should make their job somewhat easier and allow them to have a more stable in-game physics simulation.
Visually, the game looks clean and nice, without unnecessary post-processing effects and details on the streets. It certainly looks very close to what Need for Speed fans would have wanted from a modern Underground 2 re-imagining if EA ever made one.
Interestingly, the dev team are aiming to recreate the original UI style too, with big grey boxes and green animations and text. On top of this, the cars are also showcased in the same way as in the original, which certainly adds to the nostalgia.
Need for Speed Underground 2 remake is being made by two developers at the moment and it will take a while before this project is ready for the masses. Given that there's a lot of work left to be done, we're certain the game will look even better the next time we get to see it.
