You'll probably never play Monster Hunter: World on a Switch

Capcom's latest hit, Monster Hunter: World is currently available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a PC version coming later this year. Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto said that they are aware of the request to bring the game over to the Switch but the odds of that happening are slim to none.

Monster Hunter: World has not been out for a full month yet, but it's already breaking all kinds of records, the biggest of which is smashing for the fastest selling game. The RPG still has to launch for PC, but another platform should only add to its already high numbers.

Speaking of other platforms, Nintendo Switch. The question "when" has been on a lot of people's minds since Monster Hunter World gained traction. The deal is as follows. Monster Hunter World started development way before Switch was a known entity, making a port an unlikely option.

Capcom Monster Hunter: World

The general feeling is that Capcom will stick to their guns and keep Monster Hunter: World away from the Switch. Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto himself had to reiterate the official line once more and said that the company is "aware of that request. However, taking into account various conditions, bringing Monster Hunter: World now for release is difficult.

The reason Mr Tsujimoto gave is "that the Switch has different functions from other stationary consoles as well as different players. Each game console as its own characteristic, and it’s necessary that we, as game makers, adapt to that when making [a game]."

Capcom president added that "from now on, we’re looking at how we can support the Switch with our games, and that also includes Monster Hunter". He also pointed out that Monster Hunter does exist on Switch, even if it's a port of an existing 3DS release.

As it stands right now, Capcom is considering making a game which plays to the console's unique strengths, rather than porting another title over and that's fine. In short, it will be a while (more likely an eternity) before you can fire up your Switch and play some Monster Hunter: World on it.
