Starting today, Microsoft is offering a redesigned plan for its Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which includes a new subscription tier called Xbox Game Pass Standard.
Owners of Xbox One and Series X/S consoles have a different subscription plan for the Game Pass service starting today. A subscription tier called Game Pass Standard was introduced, which at the same price, 14.99 $ per month, has slightly different benefits than the previous tier, but also some limitations.
It's a good thing that Xbox Game Pass Standard comes with access to online multiplayer, which was not the case in the previous version. The difference is that the new Game Pass Standard will not get new games in its catalog as soon as they are released - that is reserved for the more expensive Game Pass Ultimate plan.
Moreover, the list of existing and old games that were previously available in the medium subscription category is no longer the same for new Game Pass Standard subscribers.
The previous subscription tier had more than 500 games, while Game Pass Standard now has around 360. Xbox games have been missing from the catalog for a year, so this new standard subscription does not include titles such as Starfield, Diablo 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and much more.
Also missing from this year's indie games are Still Wakes the Deep, Creatures of Ava, Dungeons of Hinterberg, and others.
For now, Xbox Game Pass Standard only applies to new subscribers, ie. those who do not currently have an active subscription. Those who still have an existing subscription have an offer of games similar to Game Pass Ultimate until their subscription ends.
