It's the end of the year and there are all sorts of freebies going around, with GOG going for the apocalyptic shooter flavour with Metro: Last Light Redux.
"It is the year 2034. Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside – and within. Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above", the description reads.
Metro: Last Light Redux launched at the end of 2014, and the "Redux" part means you're getting all the graphics improvements, new modes and features, and all the DLC launched for the original game in a single package.
If Metro Exodus was your entry point into the franchise, which is by no means a wrong way to dive in, then Metro: Last Light Redux should a great way to reinforce your knowledge of the franchise.
It will also paint a clearer picture of why the franchise is called Metro, as the entire game is set in the Metro tunnels underneath post-apocalyptic Moscow. The protagonist is younger and more inexperienced Artyom than you'd know from Exodus.
Building on the formula that made Metro 2033 successful, Metro: Last Light Redux offers two play styles - Survival and Spartan. Whereas Spartan is an action-oriented stealth combat experience, the Survival mode is a "slow burn fight for survival".
Metro: Last Light Redux is free on GOG for the next 48 hours, and you'd probably do well to check out some other titles on there, as the store is having a winter sale at the moment.
