A new Metro game could be announced next week, with insiders pointing to a possible reveal during a rumoured April showcase.

Metro fans could see the next game in the series announced next week. The rumour comes from several insiders across the gaming industry, who have recently noted an update to Metro could be incoming.

There hasn’t been an official sequel to 4A Games’ Metro Exodus since development began all the way back in 2020. While the studio has provided some updates since then, few details have been shared about what players can actually expect from the next game.

That may change very soon, though. If true, the game may be announced during an upcoming PlayStation State of Play later this month. On April 16, the company is rumoured to host a new event that heavily features third-party games.

Since Sony Interactive Entertainment helped support the last few entries in the series, it makes sense that they would be involved should a new one launch during this timeframe.

Metro would serve as a long-awaited mainline sequel to 2019’s Metro Exodus. Spin-off titles like Metro Awakening haven’t fulfilled fans’ appetite for a bigger entry in the series.

Should it launch as rumoured, we can hopefully expect more of the same fantastic world building, along with survival horror gameplay fans have come to love from the series.

We don’t yet know if this is the same title that insiders have referred to as “Metro 4” or if it has any ties to reports of a multiplayer entry also in development. Previous reports from within the studio noted that the next game would be “bleaker” than past entries.

As always, take these rumours with a grain of salt until we receive official confirmation that a new game is in development. But if multiple sources are saying the same thing, it’s likely we will see a new Metro game sooner rather than later.
