Marvel Rivals has slowly become one of the best shooters out there. Since its launch last year, NetEase has put in endless improvements into the game, including the introduction of new in-game systems.
While the monetary system in the game has remained the same since the launch, game file leaks have revealed the possibility of adding a new loot box system. The loot box system might get added to the game in a future update.
Loot Boxes are Coming to Marvel Rivals
As NetEase is gearing up for Marvel Rivals Season 4, data miners have gotten their hands on the update files. Following a data mining string, miners discovered traces of a loot box system in the game files.
The leaker stated, "In Season 4, logic for the 'Mysteries' player component was reintroduced. "Mysteries" is the codename for loot boxes. Within this component, there are multiple references to mystery box logic."
The mystery box logic refers to an old system where predetermined logic and player luck will determine what players will get out of the loot box.
While loot boxes might seem like a bad idea on the surface, the leaker has suggested that the loot box system might be similar to what we have seen in Overwatch 2.
In Overwatch 2, players can earn loot boxes for free by simply playing the game, which removes the whole monetisation debacle. From what we understand, the loot boxes might become a part of the battle pass or mini event passes like the costume coin.
The existence of the loot box system remains bound to the game files, so it might be a long way before it becomes a reality in-game. If NetEase Games adds this system with a fair draw system, then it might become a great tool for player retention in the long run.
