It's been a while since we've last heard about Weta Workshop's upcoming Lord of the Rings game titled Tales of the Shire, which the developer and publisher Private Division announced back in September 2023.
The only bit of information we got from that announcement was that the game is "cosy and heartwarming" suggesting a relaxing experience, probably similar to farming/life sims like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.
Today, the devs have shared the first in-game look at their project and just like many players guessed, the game does indeed look like a Lord of the Rings version of Animal Crossing at least visually.
The teaser does not reveal any gameplay, which is a bit disappointing. Basically, what we've got is a real-time in-game shot of the Hobbit village, showcasing wonderful surroundings with a waterfall, a gorgeous pond, some Hobbit houses and a nice little meadow.
Luckily, the full trailer is just around the corner according to the developers. In the same post on X, the team wrote "Tales of the Shire trailer coming soon..." Hopefully, the trailer will give us more details on how the game plays, what is the release date and more.
Tales of the Shire does not have confirmed release platforms but it's safe to assume that it's coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There's a chance we also see it on Switch given the visual style of the game, which should not be too demanding on Nintendo's platform.
