A while back, Private Division and Weta Workshop announced a partnership to develop and publish a new game set in The Lord of the Rings universe. At the time, no details were shared but today, over a year after the announcement, Weta Workshop and Private Division have shared first information on the game, including the logo, release window and platforms.
The game is officially titled Tales of the Shire and it's coming in 2024 to PC and unspecified consoles but we assume PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S release is a lock.
And that's pretty much everything we know about the game. The press release only states that this is a "cosy and heartwarming game" but we could tell that ourselves by simply taking a peek at the game's logo and teaser trailer.
As already mentioned, we don't know what kind of game Tales of the Shire will be but if we had to bet, we'd say it's some kind of farming sim, akin to Stardew Valley, Fae Farm with a bit of Lord of the Rings magic.
The safest bet would probably be an Animal Crossing-like title, a proper Hobbit shire simulator and to be honest, that's a dream game for us and probably many Lord of the Rings fans.
All in all, we're certainly excited to see more of Tales of the Shire and what Weta Workshop have been cooking lately. The developer and Private Division confirmed that a full reveal of the game with additional details is coming in 2024.
