Tales of the Shire was supposed to be released in March but the developer Weta Workshop will need more time for optimisation and bug squashing so they are moving the launch date to July 29, 2025.
It's a couple of extra months that will allow the dev team to "polish the silver and get ready for a feast" as they say in the official letter below:
"A good Hobbit feast takes time, and so does Tales of the Shire! We're taking a little longer to ensure that every Hobbit, on every platform, can enjoy the same cosy experience. The game will now launch on 29th July 2025.
We want this game to feel like a warm hug from Middle-earth, and we are making sure that no matter where you play, you'll feel right at home in The Shire. From foot-hair styles to the fluffiest cakes, every detail will be just right .
We appreciate your patience and cannot wait for you to experience life in The Shire this summer."
I was eagerly awaiting this one so this setback comes as a mild disappointment but I'm pro-delay if that means I'm getting a better optimisation and gameplay experience once the game launches.
Judging by the pre-release footage, gameplay trailers and everything Weta studio revealed so far, this could become one of those life-sim hits, especially on platforms where Animal Crossing doesn't exist, which is every platform apart from Nintendo. Smh.
Speaking about platforms, Tales of the Shire is currently scheduled to release across PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
If you're unfamiliar with the concept of Animal Crossing-like life sims, think of it as a genre that allows you to create your own unique character, decorate homes with deep customisation mechanics, cook food, fish, farm and do many, many other activities around your little village.
