Despite limited initial details, Riot recently shared additional information about the game mode, including concept art and map details.
Riot has faced criticism for their lack of new game modes in League of Legends over the past few years, as they have been recycling older modes instead. The most recent unique game mode, Nexus Blitz, was introduced in 2018.
However, Riot made an announcement earlier this year about their development of a fresh game mode called the 2v2v2v2 mode. This mode aims to provide a unique twist on the traditional deathmatch format.
Instead of a standard free-for-all, four teams of two players each compete in a series of deathmatch-style rounds. Moreover, players have the ability to purchase items between rounds.
The upcoming 2v2v2v2 game mode in League of Legends will feature an augmented system reminiscent of Teamfight Tactics (TFT). During each round, players will have the opportunity to select and apply augments to their champions, which will have diverse effects.
These augments can enhance a champion's base abilities or offer alternative benefits, providing players with a multitude of options to explore. The potential for customization and strategic choices within the game mode is vast.
While the specific launch date for the 2v2v2v2 game mode has not been disclosed by Riot, they have mentioned their intention to introduce it during the major summer event.
As a result, players may need to exercise patience for an additional month or two before the mode becomes available.
