Autofill in League of Legendss is a system where players get roles that are different than the ones they queued up for. Riot Games explain it as a necessary measure to lower queue timers.
Recently, however, players have noticed that the autofill protection, which ensures players get their desired role after playing an autofilled game, is gone. It's apparently due to a bug, that is heralding more changes to come.
In a Reddit post, the player who points out the issue found in the game, was answered by a Rioter, who states that the bug is an unintended leak of the changes for the autofill system they are implementing in patch 12.18.
And, while they could not say any more on the matter until the patch news officially goes live, they were able to say what we can expect in broad terms:
"Autofill needs to exist for reasonable queue times, unfortunately. There are some recent under the hood we've made to team role parity and planned work for hostage-taking I hope to be able to talk about soon".
So, while we can't expect autofilling to be removed from the game entirely, we don't have to fear its protection being removed either, without us getting something new in recompense.
The only question is, will it be worth it, or will it just be another Challenges system that nobody cares about, and is a hit and amiss by Riot Games.
