League of Legends has a history of introducing rotating game modes, some of which have been incredibly popular, like the 2v2v2v2 Arena, while others didn't fare as well. Among these modes, Nexus Blitz stood out as a unique experimental game mode initially introduced in season 8 and later resurrected in season 10.
However, Nexus Blitz faced challenges as players lost interest after a brief period. To revamp the mode, Riot introduced changes like Events and Rewards in 2021, which were positively received.
The demand for Nexus Blitz's return remained strong, and though it didn't appear in 2022 as promised, Riot affirmed its comeback in 2023. As a testament to this commitment, Riot recently announced the revival of Nexus Blitz, ending its three-year wait.
Nexus Blitz 2023 Release Date
Nexus Blitz is set to make its comeback in October 2023, running for five weeks. While the official release date has not been disclosed, it is likely to align with League of Legends patch 13.20, scheduled for October 12, 2023, although patch 13.21 remains a possibility.
Nexus Blitz 2023: Minimal Changes
Regarding gameplay changes, there isn't much information available currently. Riot plans to maintain a gameplay structure similar to the previous iteration of Nexus Blitz, with minimal alterations.
One notable addition is the inclusion of Jungle Pets, which are already part of Summoner's Rift.
How Nexus Blitz Works
Nexus Blitz follows a Draft Pick style and features games lasting around 15-20 minutes. During the lobby, players can choose between Lane or Jungle roles, with an option to Fill as well.
Jungle roles are assigned to two of the five players, and they are required to use Smite, while the remaining three players take on Lane roles. The map consists of two lanes, Mid lane and Bot lane, each equipped with a Jungle.
Nexus Blitz Events and Rewards
Nexus Blitz introduces random events every 3 to 3.30 minutes, granting rewards to the victorious team.
Events commence at 5.00, with the first event revealed during champion selection, and subsequent events are disclosed 30 seconds before starting.
