Riot Games introduced Arena, a fresh 2v2v2v2 mode in League of Legends, addressing player fatigue from repetitive modes like ARAM and Summoner's Rift.
However, while it gained instant popularity, the initial version only permitted duo queues, overlooking the desire for group plays.
In response to player feedback, the revamped version of Arena incorporates highly requested features, including custom and group queues, champion balance adjustments, stage refinements, new augments, and challenges. The addition of custom and group queues stands out among these upgrades.
Custom and Group Queue
Group Sizing
The updated version allows groups of 2, 3, and 4 players to queue together, enabling pre-made queues of 4, 6, and 8 players.
With a full group of 8 players, a private match can be set up. When queuing with fewer members, Riot's matchmaking algorithm fills the remaining slots based on Arena MMR.
Team Customization
Players gain the ability to determine team compositions within their groups, resembling custom match flexibility.
However, unlike traditional custom matches without ELO ratings, the Arena queue incorporates ELO calculations even with pre-made teams.
Ranked and Unranked Queues
Riot opts not to have split queues (ranked and unranked) to avoid population disparity. Yet, they remain open to reconsideration if the mode garners substantial attention.
