Konami have recently registered trademarks in Japan for Castlevania and Metal Gear Rising, which is probably just the publisher renewing their franchises.
A couple of months ago, we got some rumours about the Castlevania franchise, which is reportedly being outsourced to third-party publishers . Another report also stated that Sony are interested in the franchise and would love to do a souls-like Castlevania game but these are just rumours and nothing more so don't take it too seriously.
Anyway, Konami have recently registered trademarks in Japan for Castlevania and Metal Gear Rising, which fueled the speculation over on social media and gaming forums. We think this is just a simple trademark renewal by Konami but it was more than enough to get people talking about potential new instalments in both Castlevania and Metal Gear Rising series.
Konami filed trademarks for Akumajou Dracula (the Japanese name for the Castlevania series) and Metal Gear Rising in Japan on April 6, which were made public today, as reported by Gematsu.
Metal Gear fans will probably notice that this trademark comes soon after the recent Metal Gear teases over on Twitter. Whether this is just a coincidence or not, it remains to be seen but we suggest you don't think much of it, it probably does not mean that a brand new Metal Gear Rising game is coming. We would love to be wrong on this one, though.
