Konami have officially announced that they are working on next-gen PES game, coming in late 2021. However, the scope of the project means this year's game will be released in the form of a season update.
Konami have released a statement regarding the next Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) game. Just like earlier rumours suggested, this year's PES game will be a "season update" while the true, fully-fledged next-gen game will arrive in late 2021.
Konami say that this next-gen title is currently in development with an updated engine which will introduce major improvements in terms of player models, animations, physics, visuals and more.
"This title is being developed with an updated engine that will enable us to dazzle you with staggering improvements to all areas of the game. Expect more realistic player models and animations, enhanced physics, photorealistic visuals, and much much more," it is written in the statement.
However, the scope of the project also means that this year, PES fans will have to settle for a season update instead of fully-fledged title.
"The sheer scale of everything we are aiming to achieve for our next-gen debut has made it necessary to pare back our efforts in other areas of development," Konami say. "As a result, we have made the decision to launch this year's PES as a streamlined offering in the form of a season update."
Konami's goal is to begin testing of next-gen PES sometime in mid-2021 with an estimated release date later in the same year. You can read the full statement on Konami's official website.
PES 2020 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
