Crytek's long-running hardcore extraction shooter Hunt: Showdown is getting a massive content update on August 15, 2024, the developer announced today.
Crytek call this new update the next chapter of Hunt: Showdown since the update introduces a whole slate of new things including a brand new biome and map called Mammon's Gulch.
The new map is set in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and as you can see from the trailer above, it's pretty spectacular visually, with a lot of verticality but also tight spaces like canyons and mines for close-quarter combat.
"The first map, Mammon’s Gulch, introduces a vast and detailed new biome bringing Hunters into the shadow of the mighty Colorado mountains. Adding the element of enhanced verticality and a host of new tactical vantage points, the peaks tower over the region like sentinels. But hidden beneath the lush forests and soaring hilltops, corruption boils from the mines and oil wells below the surface," Crytek say about the new map.
Crytek said in an interview with PC Gamer that the new map will be the only available map in the game for 30 days and after that, the team will release Bayou maps which will also receive overhauls.
In addition, with this update, Crytek are bringing major improvements to the Cryengine that will result in gorgeous new visuals, upgraded audio design, performance and more.
Some of the improvements include better textures, lighting and animation as well as native 4K and 60 FPS support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
And while most of the new announcement is good news, there is a part of it that some players might find disappointing. With the update 1986, Hunt: Showdown will no longer be available on the last-gen platforms PlayStation 4 and Xbox One beyond August 15.
All console players will receive a free upgrade for the new game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, so kudos for Crytek for that.
