Lies of P director Choi Ji-won has confirmed what fans desperately wanted to hear: a proper sequel is happening. Speaking to Games Radar, Ji-won promised the follow-up will deliver "the most fun" experience yet, adding the reassuring "I will not disappoint you" for players anxious about lightning striking twice.
He asked fans to stay patient, though, suggesting it may take a while before we see the game.
Lies of P earned its reputation as arguably the best Soulslike not made by FromSoftware, which is no small feat given the genre's crowded landscape of pretenders. The game's twisted take on Pinocchio, combining Belle Époque aesthetics with nightmarish puppet horror, resonated with both critics and players.
The recent Overture DLC received widespread acclaim, too, and Choi revealed the team approached the DLC development "almost as a sequel," suggesting the expansion served as a testing ground for ideas that could flourish in the full sequel.
What to Expect from Lies of P 2 (Eventually)
Don't expect Lies of P 2 anytime soon. Without an official announcement, formal reveal, or even concept art circulating, the sequel is likely years away, probably late 2027 at the absolute earliest, more realistically 2028 or beyond.
The exciting bit is imagining where Neowiz takes the expanded world. The original Lies of P barely scratched the surface of its dark fairy tale premise, leaving ample narrative and mechanical territory unexplored. Will the sequel continue P's story directly, or jump to a different character within the same twisted universe? What new weapon assembly systems might evolve from the first game's modular approach? How much larger and interconnected will the world become?
It remains to be seen how the studio maintains the quality whilst expanding the scope for the sequel. I sincerely hope that the devs won't play it too safe by doing the first game again, but I wouldn't want to see them overreaching with bloated features that serve little purpose.
Luckily, Neowiz already proved they understand the genre's fundamentals.
For now, Lies of P fans can at least rest easy knowing a sequel exists somewhere in active development. Whether it lives up to Choi's promise remains the question, but given the original's pedigree, cautious optimism feels appropriate.
