Hideo Kojima's plan is to make one big game but while the big project is in development, Kojima Productions studio could release smaller, possibly episodic titles, which could get even weirder than Death Stranding.
Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima's latest title received extremely polarising reviews after its launch. Many players enjoyed it, others disliked it and think of the game as just a boring delivery simulator. Both sides have their points but despite such a mixed reception, Kojima does not have any plans to start making games that fit into the standard video game genres.
Hideo Kojima recently spoke about his plans in Famitsu interview, where he was joined by Yoji Shinkawa, the lead character and mecha designer for the Metal Gear franchise. Judging by his words, the next game from Kojima Productions studio could get even weirder than Death Stranding.
When asked about the future, they first mentioned they would love to do a manga together or a movie with Shinkawa's designs. However, the interesting part is that both Kojima and Shinkawa feel Death Stranding was not weird enough like many players and critics claim. To them, it is very similar to other games they have done in the past and personally, they want to make even weirder games.
Kojima stated that his studio, Kojima Productions, plan to work on several projects, one of which would be a big video game. On top of this, Kojima would love to try and create smaller games, possibly something like episodic titles, which would be digital-only.
Now, he is not sure if that will be possible but he hopes he can develop and release smaller titles while he works on the big one. Kojima would also love to merge games and films more so expect to see a lot of story-driven titles from him in the future.
