Metal Gear messiah Hideo Kojima has found himself in a peculiar situation recently, after Joe Penna, the director of Mads Mikkelsen's new movie Arctic, responded to Kojima's promotion asking whether he can now play Death Stranding.
As you're probably well aware by now, Mads Mikkelsen is one of the main cast members of Kojima's upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Death Stranding, and the man really likes advertising his colleagues on Twitter.
This time, however, he got a reply from the director of the movie, Joe Penna, which is pretty funny when you think of it. "Does this mean I get to play Death Stranding now?", Penna wrote.
Unfortunately, Kojima didn't have any good news, sticking to his strategy of keeping everyone in the dark as long as possible. "It'll take a while, but meanwhile I hope everyone enjoys the film", he said.
Considering how much Death Stranding Kojima let us in on, this is still huge progress as we've learned not to expect much bean-spilling from the man. If we could only get a firm measurement of just how long his "a while" is.
Most fans seem to agree that this means Death Stranding won't launch in 2019, with 2020 looking like a much more realistic time frame, even if it does conflict with what Kojima and Co had us thinking.
Speaking to Famitsu just before New Year's, "Is 2019 the year of the Whale? Please look forward to Death Stranding!". Many connected this to a scene from Death Stranding's trailer, interpreting it as a confirmation of 2019 launch.
Walmart Canada leaked June 30, 2019, as the date when Death Stranding starts shipping and even the game's voice actor Troy Baker a teaser, showing Final Fantasy 13 and Death Stranding characters, with a hashtag 2009v2019.
Ultimately, most fans seem to be in agreement that Kojima should take his sweet time and get Death Stranding just right. For the rest, we'll have to wait and see.
