Kojima's new year message on Famitsu indicates that Death Stranding could see the light of the day in 2019. Before asking fans to look forward to Death Stranding, Kojima mentioned the year of the whale - a clear reference to his game.
Hideo Kojima's new mysterious project Death Stranding has been one of the most anticipated games ever since the first trailer which premiered at E3 2016. With each new trailer, Kojima continued to confuse everyone and still, no one has a clue what the game is actually about. Not even Mads Mikkelsen.
We won't have to wait too long to experience Kojima's new project though as the man himself kind of confirmed that Death Stranding will be coming in 2019. Kojima's new year message in Japanese video game magazine Famitsu translates to "Is 2019 the year of the Whale? Please look forward to Death Stranding!"
The whale is a clear reference to one of the scenes from the reveal trailer where we can see multiple whales stranded on a shore. That's a pretty strong suggestion that Kojima's new game is indeed coming in 2019. The game producer then finished his message by asking fans to look forward to Death Stranding which is another indication that the game could be months away from its release.
Recently we also got some info on Death Stranding release date from Walmart Canada. The listing on their website stated that Kojima's new title is hitting shelves on 30 June 2019 and Walmart representative on Twitter further confirmed that pre-orders are available and "will ship in June".
Of course, this source is nowhere near as strong as Kojima's own words so take it with a grain of salt, but it's interesting to see this information at least partly confirmed by the game's creator himself. Previously Kojima refused to confirm any release dates and stated that even he doesn't know when the game will wrap up.
Just a couple a weeks ago, Kojima posted a Death Stranding trailer on Twitter with a bunch of whale, crab and fish emojis. This also got fans excited that some big announcement could be imminent. Well have to wait and see but it's certain that we'll get some fresh info pretty soon.
